About Us

The Loreto (Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was founded in 1609 by Mary Ward, an English woman. It forms part of the international family of Mary Ward Schools, operating in many countries throughout the world.

Loreto Sisters arrived in Mauritius on 8th September 1845 and started educating girls.

A day school for primary and secondary pupils was opened in Curepipe in 1870. Around 1955 the primary section had its own administration.  Henceforth the school was known as Loreto Junior School Curepipe.

Loreto Junior School Curepipe is a Private Catholic Primary Fee-paying School with approximately 400 pupils. It is one of many schools throughout the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto Sisters).

“ Do  Good  and   do  it well.”
(Mary Ward)

(1585 – 1645)

The person of Jesus Christ is at the heart of a Loreto school and Gospel values permeate the entire school experience. Mary Ward’s core values – justice, freedom, sincerity, truth and joy – are the foundation of the spirituality of the school community. Our school offers a catholic education which liberates, empowers and motivates students to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity in loving and responsible service. We strive to better our students through educational experiences both in and out of the classroom. The mission of Loreto Junior School Curepipe is to create a place where students feel safe to tackle obstacles and accomplish all of their goals. We offer a variety of opportunities to help students be the best version of themselves, while having some fun along the way.
